IE8/Firefox hanging problems
      #437194 - Wed Aug 19 2009 04:50 PM

Hello everyone,

I'm having problems with both IE8 and Firefox. Frequently when searching for a website either by typing the URL or clicking a link from another website, both applications will hang. Sometimes I get an error message saying Internet Explorer cannot display the web page or it has lost the connection - other times it searches continuously without responding.

I can't then reload either of the applications. The only way I can clear the problem is by rebooting the system. Closing either of the applications doesn't work nor does ending the applications from the Task Manager. This occurs whether I've got IE8 and Firefox open individually or together. Sometimes it takes up to 15 minutes for the closing/rebooting cycle.

I'm running Vista Home Premium. I've got a wireless D-Link router with a computer and laptop connected. I use the laptop 95% of the time and this problem occurs on the laptop.

I don't think it's a problem with the router because the internet is showing as connected in the system tray. And I can also get e-mail.

I've also got Zone Alarm firewall, AVG 8.5 anti-virus and Spybot loaded.

This problem has started happening in the last couple of months but it is becoming more frequent.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Gary
