Hi all, hope someone can help…
I’ve had issues with my broadband connection for about 6 months now and I’m loosing the will to live…!
I have a brand new Zyxel 660 ADSL router which got me up and running again.
I recently had my connection working but after about 2 hours it would drop out. Only a router re-boot would fix the issue. I believed this was due to a new Vista setup but the same occurs on an XP machine as well.
Today I cannot get a connection at all & I’m stumped. If anyone can help I would be very grateful…
Problem:
Router: I get a good DSL connection to the router. (the internet light is also on) I can connect to the router via IE & firefox. I’m showing a dynamic IP address being assigned to the router on the WAN side & the correct LAN address & subnet are present. Router is set to DHCP & seems to work fine. Router is assigning DNS servers fine. I CAN ping the DNS servers via the router utility tool. The ATM loopback test fails (I don’t know what this is though)
XP PC: IPCONFIG shows the correct details from DHCP. IPCONFIG /release & renew brings back the correct details from the DHCP. I can ping the router from the command line. I CANNOT ping the DNS from the command line. I cannot resolve an address in IE or FireFox.
Router has been re-set twice and re-setup via wizard & advanced setup. PC rebooted endless times. NIC reset Cables changed All software firewalls removed. Router firewall disabled.
The router seems to be connecting to the ISP OK and the DHCP server is working. There are no entries on the AnyIP table on the router making it look like there is a comms issue between windows & the router. When the connection was up before I was getting 6 mbps so I don’t think it’s a line issue. Router is connected to the primary BT socket.
Totally stumped! Hopefully someone has seen something like this before…
Thanks in advance
