I have a cherished old VCR tape that I have copied to a CDR+RW disk using my DVD recorder. I want to make further copies from my computer but am unable to do so as when I put a blank disk in my CD/DVD drive the computer doesn't recognise the disk or give me the option to format. I've tried different disks and that hasn't worked. The setup is Windows XP Can someone please help? curtis.

Can you confirm that your tape has been copied to a CD+RW disk, and why to a rewritable one? It can be easily erased from that type of disc.
Have you tried coying the tape to DVD using the DVD recorder, then copying the DVD through third party DVD writing software on your PC. Alternatively, copy the files on the disk (either your CD+RW or new DVD) to the hard drive then using third party DVD writing software to burn to DVD.

Hi Fusion I can confirm that the tape was copied to a CD+RW disk - why? cos I'm a lazy @?~#% and it was the most convenient at the time. Since posting, I have taken your advice and burned it to my hard drive using NERO. I have also burned it from the hard drive to a CD-R but it will only play on PowerDVD. Any other software doesn't seem to like the .VOB extension that this video has (the original tape may well be 40+ years old). I will test the new CD-R on the DVD recorder/player this evening to see if it works. My grateful thanks for your advice. curtis

G'day curtis.
Open Nero in DVD mode and go to 'Make your own DVD movie' and import the CD-rw contents. Burn to DVD.......
Or you could try with a CD-R making a folder Video_TS and copy the VOB file to it. I have never tried doing it, so I don't know if it will work...

If you're still having playing problems, another option to try after Sandhounds, is to follow the advice in this link -->> How to burn a DVD-Video Disc with Nero Burning ROM <<--
It uses version 6 of Nero ROM, but later versions are similar. I use version 9, which burns .VOB files as DVD videos very well by this method, and it is only slightly different from the images shown.
