Hi I have a broadband account but also a PAYG incase of BB failure!
I've noticed a yellow exclamation mark in task manager over the modem & in trouble shoot i get this:-
This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12)
If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system.
Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.
Sometimes rebooting rectifys it, but not always! When i plug my phoneline in & dial up i get a error message too saying 'error 797'.
Can anyone help permanently rectify this
Thanks

In the modem settings, is there an option to select which COM port it uses? If there is, try setting it to use a different one. COM1 is usually the physical Serial Port at the back of the PC, but you should be able to use another port such as COM3 or COM4 which are probably the most common ones for a modem.

Where are the Modem settings?, it seems like each time i reboot, the yellow exclamation mark in device manager is either there or not!.

Can you uninstall the modem in Device Manager, reboot and let Windows "find new hardware"? Then install it again using the original drivers provided with it. It is possible that a Windows Update has tried to implement different drivers and messed it up in the process.
