FPS
      #434504 - Tue Jul 14 2009 02:36 AM

Question - how to increase FPS. I have a Dell Dimension -(don't laugh)3000, with the following hardware

Mainboard : Dell Computer Corp. 0N6381
Chipset : Intel i865GV
Processor : Intel Pentium 4 @ 2800 MHz
Physical Memory : 1536 MB
Video Card : NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS
Hard Disk : ST3120814A (120 GB)
Hard Disk : Seagate (320 GB)
CD-Rom Drive : SAMSUNG CD-ROM SC-148A
DVD-Rom Drive : PHILIPS DVD+-RW DVD8701
Monitor Type : Samsung SyncMaster - 19 inches
Network Card : ADMtek AN983 FastNIC PCI 10/100 Fast Ethernet Adapter
Network Card : Intel Corporation PRO/100 VE Network Connection
Operating System : Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition 5.01.2600 Service Pack 3
DirectX : Version 9.0c (September 2009)

My FPS once online gaming - drops to 4 to 5 fps. With a quick over view of the hardware, what can I do, if anything to increase the FPS. IP is Verizon DSL.

There are a few things you could do, but first I recommend you tidy up your system by stopping unnecessary processes and programs on start-up. You can do this by going to Start > Run... and type "msconfig" and press Enter. Then untick things you don't need in the "Startup" tab and then press Apply and close MSConfig.

But on the real FPS problem, you could set the game video settings to 'Low' or 'Medium' depending on the game.

You could also upgrade your hardware since the P4 is quite outdated. Also, upgrading your graphics card would help your FPS too.
I would recommend getting a Core 2 Duo with a nVidea 9600GT or ATI Radeon 4750 as these are not that expensive but are effective and worth it.

So, unless you want to play Crysis, these will be enough to give you at least 30+FPS on High settings on most online games.

Hope this helps!
