If you've already got Firefox, you can either wait to be offered the update by the program or go to Help>Check for Updates.
You can also download the British English version here.

I'm thinking of downloading it as an alternative to IE8, is it a large download?

If you click on the link, it tells you how big it is!

The weird thing is that I updated via the updater in the browser and the update size was 10MB. Any idea why this might be the case? Usually an update via the browser is smaller than downloading the full set-up file, not larger.

Looks like there's a live chat on FF 3.5 today, I reckon that'd be a good question to ask.

Me, I'm still getting over not looking at the link before asking you about the file size :-)

Unfortunately I won't be able to take part in the live chat. The download size for the set-up file I linked to above is 7.6MB, so 2.4MB less than via the browser updater. Curious!

I updated last night. Size was 10Mb. The only problem I`ve had so far is that Pitchdark, my theme for 3.1, is not compatible with 3.5 so I`m back to the default one for now. It`s actually quite nice to have a change.
What I liked was that I was warned before I even started the update that Pitchdark was incompatible and given the option to go ahead or wait.

It`s certainly much faster and looks very nice.

At least it's not just me with the 10MB update then! I've already had updates to Add-ons which weren't originally compatible with Firefox 3.5.
You can install PitchDark 3.5.0 which is compatible with Firefox 3.5 if you want to. It's called an 'Experimental Add-on' mainly because it hasn't yet been passed by Mozilla. You'll have to register to get it. I've used 'experimental' things twice and had no trouble, so it's worth a try perhaps?
Get it here if you decide to go ahead.
