Google Mail/Gmail security Upgrade Test
      #432651 - Wed Jun 17 2009 12:59 AM

Quote:

After prompting by a group of privacy advocates, Google said Tuesday that it plans to test a more secure version of its Gmail service to see if it is viable.

Google plans to change its back-end servers so that some users will automatically use an encrypted HTTPS (Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure) connection when they use Gmail. Right now, everyone uses HTTPS to log in to Gmail, but after that Web pages are sent without encryption.

I like the Idea but with Gmail handling lots of My Post notifications(from several forums) I hope it will be a Pick and Choose what is "Secure" (as in HTTPS)
I imagine We'll have to notify all our sources that the Mail have gone over to Htpps? and some people may find themselves postless also The Providers are getting "Bounces" Like AOL used to Bounce lots of My notifications before I Pointed them @ Gmail and Forwarded from there to AOL with No Bounces and Had the benefit of being Double Spam filtered.

Sounds interesting, but the link wouldn't work for me. An idea to keep an eye on I think.

The switch is already in Place (from 2008 on the premium version) However there are Known issues
Google admit in this Blog entry , it slows the Mailbox down if left on?Imagine that system wide if it also affects the server operation too?
That is why they have not configured the Service into "full secure"
