Checking for something in the Control Panel I spied a stranger - Windows Card Space. What the..!?
Have just checked it out via Google - here.
Reading through, can't knock the idea behind it, security is paramount, what I do knock is Microsoft's bleedin' cheek again. I never asked for it, permission to install was not requested, it's not even in Add/Remove so the next search is for an uninstall if required. This is my computer not theirs, time MS remembered these little things.
Any thoughts?

Not sure George but I think Windows Card Space is just that...a space or slot into which you can insert a security card if you wish. If not, leave the slot empty.  This is what a I assume it is on my lappy anyway. Someone will put me right if I've understood it wrong.

You'll have likely got this through automatic updates (card space is a component of .NET Framework 3.0 / 3.5 ), so it could be argued that you have given it permission.

No , you won't find a separate entry in add/remove ,so the only option would be to uninstall .NET Framework 3.0 / 3.5. Problem is there's no way of telling if any of the apps on your pc require this version of .NET in order to run properly. Guess if you're desperate to get rid of card space you could uninstall that version of .NET .If you were then to find you had problems , a reinstall of the .NET , or a system restore , should get things working again.
I would add however , i think this option would be on par with trying to break a nut with a sledgehammer. Not worth the hassle and possible problems associated.
Other option is to disable the service. To do this click on start > run > type in services.msc > click OK . Scroll down to windows Card Space , right click on it and choose properties , in the drop down box next to "startup type" choose "disabled" , apply and then OK. Next time you're pc starts up the service status should be showing as stopped.
If you want to stop the service immediately then, under "service status" , click on the stop button.
Finally if you want to be in control of what windows updates installs , choose the "custom" option when you click on the yellow shield. I choose this option when updating as there often things i don't want eg Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool .

This is interesting. I don't have this on my PC as I don't have the .NET Framework describes by FifeFlyer.
However on 'Services', I have something called 'Smart Card'. Is this similar? Although I don't access 'Services' all that frequently, I see it regularly and I don't remember seeing 'Smart Card' before.
Probably it's been there for years and I'm just unobservant!

Now that's interesting FifeFlyer, thanks. The easy route of disabling this so called service is the more appealing. Plus, changing the way Updates are provided is necessary. This was on the cards anyway when June updates were downloaded and once again they required automatic restart and I was elsewhere.
Both changes duly done. I'll decide what and when in the future.

Not sure about your Smart Card other than it seems to be more for business websites security.

Thanks for your reply and the link George. It doesn't look like anything I need to be concerned about, plus money seems to be involved, so I'll go back to ignoring it!

Now yours truly Has got it on the computer (Recently) Have made some enquiries about what it does see the topic I made about my findings /comments
And No I did not invite it 
Can be Deleted off the Control Panel on the click Menu
Ps Hope its Better than that "MSN Passport" effort several years ago ...That was Trouble with a Capital T
