Hi all,
I think this has been asked a zillion times but an update would be welcome.
I have Comodo F/W (without AV), Avast AV,Spywareblaster, Malwarebytes, Glaries utilities and CCleaner.
Is this overkill?
Any advice please.
P.S Router has no F/W

In my opinion, no.
I use:
NOD32 AntiVirus
ZoneAlarm Firewall
SuperAntiSpyware
Malwarebytes
SpywareBlaster
SpywareGuard
CCleaner
CWShredder
GMER Rootkit detector
and various other tools to detect Malware/Spyware but not necessarily to remove infections without guidance.

What you've got sounds fine to me.
I've got:
NIS 2009 (which includes AV & firewall)
Malwarebytes Free
SUPERAntiSpyware Free
a-squares Free
SpywareBlaster
SpywareGuard
Ccleaner
Spybot 1.6, Tea Timer not enabled.
Windows Defender
All the 3 Free programs I mentioned and Spybot are for scanning and removal of anything found only. I have WD mainly for the Real Time protection it gives. I've had it for a long time and it doesn't clash with anything else, not even Norton, so it stays. You have to be careful not to have too many programs with real time protection or there could be problems.
I realise that some people might think I've got too much stuff on here, but I like scanning with different programs so that not much is likely to be missed. Anyway, I'm happy with it and it's my PC!

Thanks for that,
Sometimes I just feel like I spend more time on security what with updates and scans, than I do surfin'.
It doesn't help when one scan seems to find things the other doesn't. I must say I have seriously been thinking that a bit of real time protection seems to make a lot of sense, means I'll have to dust off my wallet though.

You don't , you're using Avast which has Resident protection , i.e real time protection .

You're welcome, Graham. I get updates once a day when advised on the CoU site that they're available - it saves checking everything! The only real time protection I pay for is that which is included in NIS 2009. I don't pay for any other security program.

You don't , you're using Avast which has Resident protection , i.e real time protection .
Now why didn't I know that? Probably be better to dust my brain off.
Oh well the spiders will sleep a bit longer in the wallet.

Just as a side issue, I have been using computers since starting programming on a Sinclair ZX and using the www since 1993 when I wrote my first web site.
I have never used any security software in all that time except a basic firewall (software previously and now hardware in my router).
I have never, ever had a virus or any malware on a machine.
I'm not advocating this for anyone else, simply that it works for me.
First, I keep images of my c: system drive and d: data drive daily for the previous month. If ever there were a problem, I can restore a clean image in a few minutes. System restore is not wide enough in scope (in my opinion, I hasten to add). I keep an off site backup also.
Second, all off the cuff web surfing is done in a sandbox.
Third, If I don't know what an email attachment is or it's from an unknown source, I delete it. If not, I run the attachment in a sandboxed instance of Media Player, Word or whatever.
Lastly, an up to date Hosts file is useful.
This is on a home working 3 computer network which I maintain and service myself. I wouldn't advocate it unless I had personal control of every machine.
