Google StreetView Blocked images
      #429606 - Wed May 06 2009 02:44 AM

I have seen an interesting observation on the Google Support forum which is worth debating as regards (StreetView) Blocked image requests, and they noticed that somebody requested that multiple consecutive shots be removed on a quiet road Junction. Leaving black screens and visitors guessing what is there.
The questioner reported that they knew the road (Lived Locally) and from glancing at the location beforehand there was apparently nothing out of place
Quote:

For example, the junction of **** Road with ****** road (Coventry UK) has a total of 20 successive frames deleted. I had viewed this region before the deletion and there was only one person visible in this region, they had their back to the camera and their head was blurred. What possible justification can there be for ruining this resource for everyone else by allowing selfish, presumably paranoid power freaks, to vandalise the facility

And this is from the topic starter...
Quote:

Unless there is very good cause, extra blurring should be more than enough or, in extreme circumstances, the removal of a single frame. It appears to me that organised paranoid nuts are deliberately removing sequential frames in an industrial manner to ruin the facility. No one owns views of streets and nor should they, respect privacy by all means but stop destroying a fantastic resource enjoyed by those less deluded and paranoid people who do not live in the past that never was.

I have 2 questions for Google Maps Admin

1) If there is a "Block request" made is it in your (Googles) policy to accept the first Image only, then subsequent Requests(for adjacent frames)from the same Party are viewed with suspicion ( as Spamming?) Therefore the Whole set are untouched ...Good moderation

People don't realise the Blocking Images often attracts people! So it cuts both ways. Bulk serial blocking is virtual vandalism! To quote a wise friend of Mine when we were chatting about this topic ,before I saw the Google Support forum postings above

You tell the World you don't exist. The World is Interested!

2) Despite being deleted, are the deleted image/s still in the database to be restored if there is evidence of Spamming? Or Cluster Deletes from the same person
And I have news for Mr "No-Pics"Vandal The places you may have removed will still show up sharply if your area has been scanned by Live Maps Birdseye View, or Googles (Newish)Geoeye imaging ,(which is Very High resolution) Unknown if any UK Places have been published yet? And I doubt if Google or Microsoft have Blocking controls for either of those Flagship Programs
