In an email to sellers saying they are limiting changes to 'two per year' (meaning they will only make changes twice a year, instead of every two/three months, eBay have set out their latest round of changes.
Called ironically
Focus on Selling
it seems eBay have finally started to listen - most serious sellers have been trying to 'focus' for the last few years as eBay wound it's strange way through changes and aquisitions that seemed dedicated to making the whole thing too difficult to bother with,
Main changes that I can see:
They will allow sellers to sell choices within a listing - so you can sell, say, T-Shirts in different colours and sizes rather than have a listing for each colour and size as you should do now.
A new Returns policy that does seem to be leaning heavily away from the seller in that a buyer now clicks a button to say they will be returning an item.
Mandatory dispatch time - this again is more for the buyer, but as someone who buys and sells it is welcome. We are one of the few on eBay who say we send within a working day and actually do. Now you will default to Two Days if you have not specified anything.
A new Item page - this follows on from a new My eBay and new Search so hardly unexpected.
A new 'Smart' FAQ for buyers - er, again how is this for sellers?
Matching Products Module - sold to us as a 'catalogue' but it actually is no more than a variation of Best Match. You type in for a search and if the 'product' is in high demand you will get a list of 'products' as well as the usual 'item' list. Right.
The problem with the latter is Best Match is what mucked up most people's sales anyway. No longer do you have a default 'Ending Soonest' search, but instead one that supposedly picks the top seller (with best feedback etc), best price, most sales etc etc. Yet usually the top item is from Hong Kong...........
All in all a strange 'change' as nothing major to really talk about, BUT it is interesting that was is called a Focus on SELLING actually puts the buyer better off.
I recently tested out eBay's Beta AdCommerce - sort of like a Google Adwords campaign I think. If you search now on eBay you should get a list of, say, 50 items per page and beneath that are little ads - about six. That is AdCommerce. The trouble is most people do now like clicking on these sort of things for worry about spam and viruses.
All that happens is that you get taken to another eBay page, usually a seller's shop. To create a campaign you have to select key words and say the max you will pay per click and per day - problem with this is the keywords are unlimited and some sellers are putting keywords in for stuff they do not even sell.
EBay show you the 'Impressions' you get (amount of times your ad is in front of a punter) and currently my campaigns are over 110,000 but only 30 odd clicks (cost about 2.50).
No way of seeing IF this has led to sales, but I guess you have to try anything to keep going!
-------------------- I loved my grandmother very much.......and she fetched a good price on eBay.
