I recently got a new Nokia 6500 and I must have clicked something. It says '3g' in the top far left hand corner with a signal bar next to it, and then the battery sign. Have I switched 3g on? If so, how do I switch it off? Am I being charged? Please help It's really getting me down

I don't think you could have managed to switch it on by mistake. More likely to be on be default. Its probably set to 'Duel Mode' which will switch between UMTS (3G) and GSM depending what's available. Should you want to turn it off, go to: Menu -> Settings -> Phone -> Network Mode -> choose "GSM" -> Select
You may have to turn your phone off then back on again.
No, your not getting charged for this service. It's just a more efficient technology for sending and receiving phone services. In my experience, depending where you live or work, the UMTS or 3G does not work as good as the GSM and switching between the two is experimental and dependant on 'your' circumstances.
