IE6

Advice please. I am currently running IE 5.5 with windows 98SE and everything works well. What are the advantages , if any, of upgrading to IE 6 - SP1. Are there any disadvantages/known problems?

John

Most people who've got IE 6 seem to swear by it, but I've always believed in "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", which is why I've stuck with version 5.5.

There were a few negative comments when it first came out, mainly to do with Java I think, but if people here are to be believed (and if they can't be, who can?), that's easily sorted, so it's up to you. Stay in the stone age with me, or follow most of the others into the future.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for your reply Barney. The same expression went through my mind as I was typing out the post. If it's good enough for you then I will probably stop in the stone age.

The only thqing better than the experts on this forum is hindsight!! I wish I hadn't upgraded to IE6. It may be coincidence but ever since I did I have had no end of problems, none of which I can satisfacorily sort out (see my various posts) ... but with mainly Puta's help I am getting there - I hope!!!

John

There is one problem with IE6, it's SP1. Following a lengthy legal battle Microsoft have removed Java VM. They did this within SP1 but didn't bother to tell anyone in advance. Once it's gone you can't get VM back again and a lot of sites rely on it. I've been given a fix by Puta but it it's not perfect. The other problem might be that Microsoft will withdraw support for, in their terms, 'legacy' software in the future so you might be forced into upgrading.
