Hi all,
Normal procedure for getting on line:
Open '3connect', wait whilst it performs a quick device scan, hit 'connect' when it has found the network.
As of yesterday, no device scan, no network.
Only problem with that, is that somehow I am connected to the Net.
Even if I don't open 3Connect, I'm still connected.
I can't see this being a good thing, so ran some security software over it.
Near total blank, except for Ad-Aware reporting a possible browser hijack.
When I checked these in the quarantine list, they seemed to be related to a games uninstall files.

I have scanned the game & the modem with AVG, comes up clean.
I doubt this means I am getting free Internet, so does anyone have a clue what's going on?!?!
Thanks for your time, Mugsy.

You don't need to run the "3 Connect" software in order to connect. If the software has been installed in the PC and the dongle is plugged in, there will be an entry for it in the Network Connections folder as a Dial-up connection. Right click this, select Connect and it will go online.
Now, if it happened to be set as your "Default" connection and, in "Control Panel > Internet Options > Connections tab", you have selected either:
- Dial whenever a network connection is not present
- Always dial my default connection
...then it will connect automatically when an internet connection is required.
To stop this behaviour, select the option:

Thank you Mike, that info was Spot On.
Now I know what was causing it to happen, I was thinking of leaving it that way to save me connecting manually. If I did, would it be using my data allowance, or does that only start when i connect say, a browser or msn?
Cheers, Mugsy

It will only use up your allowance when data is being transferred, either uploading or downloading. However, in addition to the obvious programs, such as web browsers and email, many programs installed in a PC will automatically check for updates from time to time and this will also eat into your allowance.
Checking in the "My 3 Page" will let you keep an eye on your usage (although it seems to have been unavailable all day to-day!).
