Trouble with Virgin
      #421332 - Mon Feb 02 2009 03:08 PM

Is anyone having trouble with their Virgin connection? For the past two weeks I have been having trouble connecting to the Internet. For 3 days I have not been able get on at all, and the rest of the time it has been just for the morning, or sometimes the evening. When I ring Virgin all I get is a recorded message. I have sent an e-mail to them and got no reply. I am paying £25 per month for broadband for nothing.

Hi,

Couple of things you could try,

first option, shutdown your modem/set top box, then scan your pc for spyware/viruses and clean as necessary and reboot if required. Next, power up your modem/set top box and see how that goes.

second option, use a restore point from say, three weeks ago and again, scan your pc for spyware/viruses and clean as necessary.

third option, assuming the first two didn't fix things, if you have virgin's cable services, try ringing 151 and you can talk to the tech support for free. If you don't have virgin's cable service, you could ring 0845 454 1111

this link http://status-cable.virginmedia.com/vmstatus/summary.do will tell you of any known issues with virgin's cable services (when your connection is working).

hopefully, these will help restore your services to full working order, if not, then i'm sure one of our more techy members, wil be able to think of something to help.

Ray

Virgin home page is offline today. However I can still access everything else on the web. Was the original issue just that the 'Front' page for Virgin was not loading? If that is, then always try another site.

I fail to understand why some of you are paying so much money for broadband. I recently switched from AOHell/BT to Post Office home phone/broadband and only pay under 20 quid for 7meg broadband and free calls evenings/weekends including 20 international and mobiles. The monthly fee includes the line rental! 25 quid per month is an absolute rip-off.

Sorry for not replying sooner, but it has been terrible trying to connect to the internet these last few weeks. When I dialled 150 or 151 and even the 0845 number, all I got was a recorded message. Eventually I dialled the number which says you are thinking of leaving and someone answered straightaway. They sent someone out today, and he went through the procedure of a checklist and said that the readings were normal, and it must be a firewall I have installed that is stopping the connection. I have had the same setup for years and had no problem. Funny thing is that I can get online tonight, so fingers crossed. My husband thinks that Virgin are tinkering with everything so that people will want to pay more money to change to the faster speed., but he is a bit of a Victor Meldrew.
