In the Processor Speed race AMD have released a brand new build (Deneb) of their Quad Phenom Chip And they are going to stop production of the early Version Soon (Expect prices to fall They are Labelling this Phenom II And for now there are only 2 choices the Phenom II 940 Black Edition and Phenom II 920. And They are provisionally Priced from 150 Pounds (Expect a fall in price in a few months) Note the Numbers These do not tell You how they will Perform (as in previous incarnations) And Boy are you in for a surprise! If you are saving for a Phenom Chip Do Wait for These (Maybe in stock in a few weeks?) I shall let the article do the talking Here are the Numbers the New chips are Not as Heavy wattage as the original And Does have an "Idle mode" (NEW Feature) to Switch the core/s off if ticking over Now the Big Numbers How Fast can it Pedal? The current Version (Unmodified) can run to 10 GHZ ....GO Wow! The New Version (Unmodified) runs to 12 GHZ ......GO WOW! Now the Black Edition Versions of the Processor do have the Facilities to alter the clock speed (Program) and Really let it fly (Needs super cooling) So How Fast have the Geeks Taken it? Well the Phenom II 940 Black Edition holds the World Record (with Nitrogen Cooling) @ 15 GHZ ! www.trustedreviews.com/cpu-memory/review/2009/01/08/AMD-Phenom-II-X4-940/p1
Question What home application will run at those speeds? (even unmodified?) Faster Multi tasking (multi cores) is what the Home user wants. How long before the Developers realise that?
