How do you speed up connection
      #418135 - Tue Dec 30 2008 07:15 PM

Hello all,
Having a 5 year old PC and on dial up things are slowing down drastically.
As the web and programmes seems to be only aimed at those on BB now, I was wondering if there is anything I can use to block a lot of the c*$!p and images which take up so much precious download time on every page?
I tried a FF add on , Bork 1.7 but discovered there is a bug with it that has not been fixed by Mozilla.
So please can anyone tell me if there are any alternatives.
Many thanks

You could try the advice in this link -->> Set up Firefox as a text only browser noting the web developer toolbar provided by Chris Pedericks.

It is designed for developers to see how their site(s) look with various options disabled.

I have just tried it and it makes a site look pretty bleak, but should load a lot quicker.

Thanks you guys for such quick replies.
I have tried onspeed and didn't get on with it to well.
I am as we speak trying your suggestion Fusion.
It's bleak but 100% faster. Only small draw back is having to switch it on and off but it's a small price to pay.
Thanks once again and a Happy (speedy) New Year.

Another thing you can try is to ask BT to increase the 'gain' on your line. This should improve your connection speed which helps quite a bit. We did this and we usually don't need to block things. We usually get a connection speed of 40.0, 44.0 or 45.2Kbps. This probably sounds dreadful to BB users, but you get used to it!
We couldn't get on with Onspeed either.
