they DO give free laptops, providing you sign up for an 18 month contract. A friend got the "3" mobile contract with a toshiba free laptop and reckons it works well. i think the contract costs £30 per month.

Mobile broadband providers have been falling over themselves to offer mobile broadband with free laptop packages in the past few months; there are lots of deals available at the moment. Try a look at http://mobile.broadbandgenie.co.uk/pcadvisor. These bundles are a great way to get online if you don't already have a laptop without parting with a load of cash up front. It's worth noting that none of the laptops are really free. Consider your costs carefully as these, what ought to be called ‘inclusive’ and not ‘free’, laptop deals may end up costing more in the long term.

Sorry! noticed an error on my previous comment, so just an update to say with the run up to Christmas, there's even more incentives on offer to get consumers to go mobile broadband. It is worth a look at http://mobile.broadbandgenie.co.uk/pcadvisor for information on the latest laptop and dongle offers.
