Try running the system file checker. To do this simply go to the Run box on the Start Menu and type in:
sfc /scannow
Then click OK.
If there are no problems the entire check will complete but if not it will ask you to insert the installation disk,
I understand you do not have the installation disk but there is a work around. Its a matter of checking to see if there is a CD-ROM image is on your machine. If so redirect it to that.
Hi again Joe I think I may have stumbled across the answer,I turned off windows automatic updates and rebooted and the error code was not present, what do you think??
Something may have caused a corruption in the system possibly to do with automatic updates. Perhaps updating the system to SP3 would resolve it. My advice is to complete what we're doing first and then try updating manually.
Can you post a list of your security programmes and we''ll see if any changes are required.
Ideally you need one firewall, one anti-virus and one anti-malware programme running at startup.
In addition you can add Ccleaner, Site advisor and Spywareblaster. That should be enough.
I would recommend dumping all P2P programmes as they are very susceptible to malware.
