I would suggest that you start by doing a chkdsk on your hard drive, but be prepared to back up all your important data NOW!

To do a chkdsk, go to start | run type in cmd and press enter
at the command prompt, type chkdsk /r and press enter.

It will tell you that it can't unmount and ask if you want to do the chkdsk at the reboot, click yes and then reboot

It may take some time to do the chkdsk and you may need your windows disk, so have it to hand

Also can you tell us what make your hard drive is?

In that case, you won't need the disk, you'll need to point to \windows\winsxs folder IF the computer asks for anything

Like the man said, your hard disk is about to fail completely. If you have any important data on there you need to back it up NOW. There is no magic fix - you need a new hard disk and you will lose everything currently on the old one.

Self-Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology or SMART has told you everything that you need to know, failure predicted. Usually that message comes up when there is, and is accurate in 75% of cases. That is too much like a probabilty than a possibility.

Greysts and I are in absolute agreement. This hard drive is unlikely to see out the month and certainly not the year. You say it is under warranty? Good, back up your data and take it back. They will replace the hard drive but not your data, photos, documents, etc so back them up now, or lose them forever

If you want proper security then remove the old hard disk from the computer and physically destroy it by undoing all the screws, removing the platters and finding someone with a furnace to to melt them! If you don't want to go that far just remove the old hard disk and put it in the attic. Whoever is giving you a new hard disk has no need to see or keep the old one.
