Burning to DVD from video file(s)
      #400583 - Wed Jul 16 2008 04:26 PM

I have a Sony Handycam DCR-SR45. Great camera and awesome storage. 30GBs of memory. About 20 hrs. of video recording. Anyway, when I transfer the recorded files to my computer, I have no problem and can view them as single files. But when I try to burn them to a DVD it turns out to look like a bad Godzilla moive. It looks like a bad dubbing. Mouths moving and no sound until about 2 seconds later. I have checked the DVD-R speed and matched that with the Nero 6 burner speed. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Nero. Not sure if my video card is bad but I never had this problem with burning other videos. Any suggestions would be very helpful.

Hi

It sounds like you're having a bit of a headache with the PTS timestamps that stick the mp3 sound track to the mpg video file (they're saved in teh one file envelope so don't think I've gone mad - it's the way they're encoded).

To be completely honest, I suspect the root cause of your issue is the Nero software that tends to work on US standards - your camera's probably set to UK standards and there's the rub! The best idea I can offer is for you to drop your movies through a 3rd party DVD compiler like ConvertXtoDVD (email me privately and I'll point you in the right direction for this bit of software).

Hope that helps.

G'day Speedracer.

Yep I have had that problem in the past.

If you are using Nero6 to convert the file to VOB then don't burn the DVD on the fly but first image it to HDD then use 'Burn DVD Video Files'.
Perfect every time...

Thanks sandhound, I will try and image it to HDD then Burn DVD. I'll be back to let you know how it goes.

The camera was bought in the US so I doubt it was set to UK settings. Thanks for your input.

Can't seem to figure this thing out. I'll be back after some other testing. I don't know how to image it to HDD.

G'day Speedracer.

This image is the last menu page before burning to HDD or Image to HDD.
To burn the Image use 'Burn Image' to burn files use 'Burn DVD-Video Files'

Yep, that is the las page I have also. Now when there I use the second part of your image and click burn to...Image recorder and not to DVD? Once image is recorded then I can burn to DVD with no voice loss. Am I following you correctly. Thanks.

G'day Speedracer.

Yep on track. By imaging it uses less resources and the end result is good.
I started off at first burning on the fly and as the video when viewed progressed, the lip movement went further out of sync.
I only got very slight audio loss.

BTW I prefer the first part of the image and use 'Write to Hard Disk Folder'.
Since using write to HDD I have been getting 100% results.

I used the video editing program that came with the camera and it seemed to work just fine, but when I tried to use your suggestion the wife used up all the free memory space on my C drive for pictures. hahaha, I shouldn't have waited. I only have about 500Mb of space left. So, until I get my new computer I'll be stuck waiting to see how it will work. Thanks again for your help. She doesn't want me transfering her pictures to my external hard drive.

G'day Speedracer.

I should have added that nero requires about 10Gb of spare HDD to do its thing.
Ok the video editing software supplied, at least you can use that ok for edit out the unwanted bits.
