Currently I have PC running XP but I am waiting the delivery today of a new laptop with the operating system Windows Vista Ultimate Edition. Jumping ahead, past the set-up process and updates, it is my intention of downloading the latest edition of Firefox as this is something I have been using of late, and wish to continue. Is there anything anyone would like to advise at this stage please?.

Go for it
Use the instructions here to copy your bookmarks and email them to yourself
Collect the email on your NEW lappie, and import them into your newly installed FF
You might then want to get the necessary addons

Ugh, thanks. Dare I tell you what I've been doing over the last few days?. With my email account open, I have been copying/pasting all my favs and bookmarks sites one by one and taking them to a draft section in my email account.
Further that, one by one I've been going through everything in "My documents", deleting long forgotten things and copying those I wish to retain and placing them also in drafts.
I suppose being an OAP with nothing much to do all day (lol) I considered it to be no problem, but if only I'd have known your route to all this. Never mind, hopefully someone somewhere will have learned.

As another OAP with nothing to do all day (yeah, right!) I use FEBE to do everything - extensions, bookmarks, themes, cookies etc. - all in one go. Just think, you could have saved even more time to sit down and do nothing!

greysts seems to doing nicely getting a mention in most issues of WU I notice.
The machine is here, and so do I, wondering if I dare make a start with it. It seems easy enough inserting the battery, power, click on start, but then there is the barrage of windows that require attention, I afraid I will either click on something wrong. Maybe I should wait for someone else to go through the set-up for me.

We are here ready willing and able. Before you start connecting the lappie to the net, start off by making sure that the battery is fully charged. Then you can go through the myriad of updates that undoubtedly you'll have to go through
I am assuming that the machine comes with anti virus and firewall installed?
If not, that will be one of your first steps

my pc is old and makes a hell of a noise in our lounge, plus it is very slow. We have utilsed our welsh dresser as a desk, having taken out the draw and put it back upside down and it serves as a rest for the keyboard. I've removed an inner shelf of the dresser to accommodate my printer. All this to save space and preserve the dark wood furniture (lol). I've been thinking about a lappy for ages and read so much that I don't understand, when suddenly this new machine was shown to me. Everyone said it was a good price and a good spec. I don't suppose for one minute I will reap the benefit of it, due to my lack of knowledge and at my age, it's almost too late now.

It's never too late, kingfisher, and don't let anyone tell you different.
