As you mentioned Avast getting a bit bloated I thought I would check in Programs and Features the size of mine - 79.9Mb!! Should it be this big? I have updated to the latest version twice now. Could this have something to do with it? I have just checked on Filehippo and the latest one should be no bigger than 25.18Mb

I see what you mean. That is the unpacked program Together with the latest updates Total on the Alwil Software folder(In Program Files) is about 118 MB! Do your numbers tally with Mine?

They probably would if I updated to the latest version mentioned in this thread. So far I haven`t bothered so I am still at 79.9Mb.If it just goes up and up each time you have to update to a new version god knows how big the file will get.

The only saving grace is We have the Likes of CCleaner and Easycleaner to clear the Old update files(if any?) And...OK version 4 has been Very Good (and around for a long time) But have Avast got Version 5 ready for release or Beta Test? Which will be an All New code (and smaller?) or even a Version 4 - Lite? (which is a cut down version) Which I'm sure would be welcome

I was just checking up on other programs as well and I noticed that Paint.Net which was updated from v3.31 to v3.35 is a 1.41Mb download from Filehippo but on the laptop it is reading 3.95Mb. And after asking around I found someone who downloaded the latest version only yesterday and is reading 86.3Mb, which is more than me. I guess it`s just the way programs are installed.

If that is true, then we may have to shop around for the more compact files
Only thing I can think of is some are stored fully compressed, and Others semi-compressed (Different Management systems)
Need clarification on this..... Majority of the Main downloaders use the fully compressed original file to copy .Broken open(Bloated even by a few bytes) could mean that its got some sort of Malware on board! Advise caution on these! Best Policy is to declare the size of the File as a Heads up and its location.

Before I install anything I always scan the file first. So far I have never come across a problem one. I imagine downloading from well known sources like Filehippo would be the safest bet.
