Transfer AOL to new computer
      #400748 - Fri Jul 18 2008 05:41 PM

I want to transfer AOL from Old computer to New Computer, both running Windows XP Pro. Can I just download AOL and log in as previously and if so what will happen to all my emails - will they be on the server or my old computer.

Have you got a USB Pen drive? You need to have your Old computer to Hand
You want everything including Favourites & saved Emails the Latter Won't Transfer unless you save them as a file "Manage" Button for Favourites.(Bottom of the Window) Then transfer /import the File if you get Nothing showing OK?
IIP Email them to yourself and transfer across later

But before that You have several jobs to do
Before AOL is installed you Will have to install your modem/Router connectivity drivers So go to AOL Keyword Drivers and download the driver that corresponds to your Modem or Router (there are images to help you)and a page of instructions to help with the Wiring Do Not Plug the Blue USB cable in until you see the Message(Modems) Ditto yellow cable router
Both about 7 MBs each
Drag and drop the files onto the USB File Link which Acts like a Dumb folder
Now the AOL Program another download
http://help.aol.co.uk/settings/upgrade-to-aol-90/article/20070119120009990017
Download and save this File its for AOL 9 VR which operates with both Vista and XP

Next transfer that over to your New PC

Now its easy.. This is the Order you do Things
1st Install the Router set up the Passwords (and check the Windows Firewall is on) then Install AOL then Get a free Copy of McAfee firewall from KW Firewall install immediately!
2) If you have a Modem then Install that, then AOL then Get a free Copy of McAfee Firewall from KW Firewall
3) Once Macafee is installed Check to see that Windows Firewall has been switched off

Installing AOL is easy I assume you have installed the Modem router Drivers
The question on the First page "Sign in as an existing user" then all you do at the end of the wizard is input your screen-name(Has to Be a Master name) and Password
On the connection detect menu just follow the Prompts for Broadband (Can fine tune it later) and fingers crossed you'll get a First time connection. and Your email is Intact bar the "Save to my PC" items and the Email waiting to be sent Folder
Entire Job perhaps 10 minutes(Before download times)

If your Voyager router is a 190 version
The installation is similar apart from some Points
Perhaps this method may be easier?
Quote:

Download AOL 9.0 VR with your BT Voyager 190
In order to download the AOL 9.0 VR software using your BT Voyager 190 ethernet modem you will firstly need to create a stand alone connection to the internet.

To create a stand alone connection:

1. Ensure that the BT Voyager 190 is correctly connected and in synch.
Note: When your modem is in synch the Power, DSL and Ethernet lights will all be solid green.
2. Click Start and select Control Panel.
3. Double-click Network & Sharing Centre.
4. Click Connect to a network in the left hand column.
5. Click Broadband (PPPoE).
6. Enter your AOL email address. This is yourscreename@aol.com.
7. Enter your AOL password.
8. Enter a name for the connection, eg Broadband connection, then click Connect.
9. Wait for the modem to connect, then click Browse the Internet now.
10. Visit AOL Keyword: Upgrade and click Download AOL 9.0 VR.
