Discovered this one just by chance, so thought I'd share it..!
Let's say you're browsing a message board (like this one, for example) or place where there's a large amount of scrolling to be done. Now you can use the sidebar to scroll down, but that's clumsy and you usually scroll right past the area you want to view.
Alternatively, you can use the mousewheel, which is good for small amounts of scrolling, but for multiple screens of text, it can take forever to get to the place you're trying to read.
However, thanks to Firefox, there is an alternative, and it's a really useful one!
Go to "tools" on the Firefox navigation toolbar, and click "options" and then "advanced". Click on the "general" tab, and look for an option that says "use autoscrolling" - tick it. Now for the clever bit!
To make it work, rather than using left or right click on the mouse, you have to click the mouse wheel you normally use for scrolling up/down with, as if itself were a button. If your mousewheel allows this kind of clicking, you should see a new symbol appear where your cursor previously was. This is your auto scroller. Now you can scroll automatically whenever you want to, and doing it is easy. Just move the mouse up or down slowly, as if moving your cursor. The more you move the mouse up/down, the faster the screen scrolls. It makes for pinpoint-accurate - or extremely fast - scrolling. You'll wonder how you ever did without it!
As a final aside, there's also another option available in the "advanced" section, which appears immediately under the "auto scrolling" box, called "enable smooth scrolling". You may find that if your scrolling is a bit blurry or jerky generally, that ticking this option, helps with the problem.
Enjoy your browsing - Tigerwolf

Hi TigerWolf,
Great tip The release of Firefox 3 has opened up a gold mine of useful tips.
I can see Webuser writing a "20 ways to improve your Firefox 3 experience" for the magazine in the near future.

Why thank you!
The nice thing about this one DM, is that it works with Firefox 2, as well! So no older Firefox users are going to have any problems with this one...
The "20 ways to improve your FF3" experience sounds like a good idea though, I have to agree. I've yet to play around with FF3, although I did try out one of the betas... just waiting for my various add-ons to be updated, so I can install them and carry on as normal!

I think we fumble-fisted mouse-wheel scrollers discovered this, by chance, ages ago.
I don't think you actually need to go into 'tools'. Just click the scroll wheel, the little symbol appears and away you go. Fast/slow, up/down, - you choose. .
