I've been using Zone Alarm Pro for the last 2-3 years and it seems to work fine, until today. We access the internet via a wireless router and today we can't access the internet - Firefox says the internet is connected, but it's timed out. I decided to shutdown Zone Alarm and I found I could access the internet. I restarted it and I couldn't... Ultimately I found that it would work if I changed the Firewall setting from "Stealth" to "Medium".
I hadn't previously changed this setting and would prefer to set the firewall settings as high as possible, but don't understand what's chganged.

The problem is a new download from Microsoft KB951748. This conflicts with Zonealarm and wont let you connect to the internet. You have a choice until "they" fix it. Either remove KB951748 from Add/Remove or leave Zonealarm set at "Medium" which would be my choice. Hope that helps.

Ah! Thank you so much! This has just happened to me too! I have been scratching my head all day! Eventually I just uninstalled ZoneAlarm and downloaded Comodo instead! Problem solved! But at least I know what he problem was!

I had thought it was XP3 on one machine then realised on another it was the update. Made the news today so there must be many affected.
Zone Alarm report an update will be around 'soon', but I wonder how many people out there are on the phone to their ISPs?

It's caused a bit of bother to a lot of us over the past 24 hours. Click here.
What with AVG8 driving folk up the wall conflicting with various anti spyware, now MS and Zone Alarm causing mayhem. It's enough to make the local pub a more peaceful haven.

I got as far as clicking the button to uninstall KB951748 but backed off when a window came up "If KB951748 is removed these programs might not run properly. Do you want to continue?"
So, I hummed & haahed and chickened out. I know these warnings are a precaution to double-check you've selected the right instruction (and to cover their backs probably) but as I had enough problems trying to get through to Tiscali on Thursday & Friday I decided to wait and ask somebody here first!
If it ends up that my computer does not 'run properly' if I uninstall KB blah blah, what could I do about it? I am totally inept when following following computer-speak so am fearful!
I went to ZA to check for updates but the button is set to automatic and when I click it I don't get a choice to update - assuming it's already done? At the moment the only way I can get internet access is by keeping my Firewall setting at medium and that's making me very nervous.

I initially removed KB951748 as Zone Alarm said there was no update available as you just experienced. Following mart's link in another thread on the subject, there is indeed an update.
Just choose your Zone Alarm product, choose the Basic Firewall version,(if that's what you normally use), download and install.
Then the MS update conflict will be fixed.

Hang on folks........IF you have AVAST as Anti Virus this has a conflict with the patched Zone Alarm. Kid you not........You get a message after installing the new ZA and although it appears limited as a problem Avast say they are working with ZA to fix it.
Don't you just love Windows?

Issue Resolved for few and few people still searching for some help.
But Microsoft they done care for common people.
They just keep on changing and expect us to adapt.
i thinks its time for people to change and make Microsoft pay for their deeds.

Brad
