Hello folks. I was having some trouble with acronis true image home the other day so i uninstalled it. When setting the secure zone i partitioned the D drive for the startup manager which had overwritten the MBR. I stupidly deleted the restore partition thinking the pc would revert to its original setting...very stupid i know, i've been calling myself every name under the sun after i'd realised what i'd done!
Anyway, now i can't do a system restore or a microsoft system restore. I've reloaded acronis and can't set up a secure zone or the startup manager. I get the following msg on a blue screen when i try to do a system restore:
STOP: c0000218{Registry File Failure} The registry cannot load the hive(file): \SystemRoot\System32\Config\Security or its log or alternate It is corrupt, absent, or not writable.
Is there anyway i can undo the damage? I have a couple of programs who's serial numbers have been lost during moves etc. and i don't want to lose these. Please forgive my ignorance. Damian
P.S. emachines 5250, XP SP2
