Hi I have just installed AVG 8.0.135 from filehippo. I am finding that when i do try to update manually, with all other programmes closed, it won't! I get straight away, that i'm not protected & that it can't connect to the update server! Firefox was also shutting down & asking me if i wanted to send a report!
I've re-installed 7.5 & all is ok, but, i know 7.5 is being discontinued soon!
I read somewhere that there was a problem with this version & was wondering if the newer version, 8.0.138a133, available from grisoft, would work ok!
Can anyone help please!

I never have understood why people waste their time with FileHippo. If you want the proper download file, go to the people who create the software in the first place, rather than some dodgy second hand site. Click on this link to download the file from Grisoft. Save the file and disconnect from the net. Use Add/Remove programs to uninstall Ver 7.5, reboot your PC then double click the file you have just downloaded. Finish the installation and reboot again.

Well as i thought, i downloaded the version you said greysts & no luck! On installation, it asks if i want to create a directory, click yes if i do & no if i want to change the target path! I doubt that has anything to do with it though!
I close all programmes & opt to manually update & i get 'connection to update server failed' Try later, can you visit the website or check if parameters are correctly set!
Also, my Firefox browser runs extremely slow, typing drags & keeps not responding & needing to close, do you want to send a report etc!
I'm sure i read somewhere that there was a FF conflict & wasn't updating, i don't know what to try next!
Help appreciated

AVG 8 has over ythe lst week issued a major new download SP1 and its servers have been inundated and at times could not cope with the demand. Hence a variety of "failed" messages when downloads, manual or automatic were attempted. Before I found this out from the AVG 8 Free Forum, I tried uninstalling, reparing, reinstalling before eventually the download worked. Then everything was back to normal. Incidentally as the official AVG site download did not work, or appear not to, the last desperate and successful try was from FileHippo.

greysts told me not to use filehippo!!! conflicting views from everywhere:( I've tried all downloads, from avg site, grisoft, filehippo etc & nothing!! Could it be my firewall? See here

I may try uninsatlling or disabling, turning on Windows Firewall & seeing how that goes!!
That don't stop the issue with Firefox crashing & running slow, typing dragging etc!! I seem to be getting nowhere!!
