Looking for somebody you saw in town perhaps? Some help for you
      #399069 - Mon Jun 30 2008 11:53 PM

I was in Manchester the other day and I met somebody who gave me their Mobile Number (and I mislaid it! ) Not going Back 30+ miles on a wild goose chase
And all I had to work with was the location /Name and area
Problems 1 They had no land line 2. Therefore if they did its 50/50 they have a computer and 50/50 They use the Web
The Method that Normally work is to put an Ad in the Paper and the Best Paper for the Purpose is The Loot which is published all around the Northwest
which brings up #3 Since the Web has Grown since 1996 is the Readership of many of the Ad pages has gone online www.loot.com and B)they have made a duplicate set of ads online on their website But... There is not so many regular Viewers of these ads
and weekly numbers are mostly casual surfers . Hence response which was good in the 90's without Internet access will be now sporadic at best Unless You have something special to sell or buy and word spreads about somehow
So the next step is to Look Locally elsewhere and cover those places ..all I need is 1 random surfer with the Information(even partial) to drop me a line
If you are New to surfing you will probably Never go further looking at ad links on Ebay and Google links My personal favourite is the www.adtrader.co.uk site (which is a Loot like site) But if, as a regular surfer in the links you may see either the name CraigsList or Gumtree They are different and the same..To explain they are both Forums run in the style of Adtrader and the Loot and yet when you look deeper there are Local Ads for all sorts of items (including Personals) and all free to submit(have to register) Despite its tatty outward appearance the Moderation is very good
Where were we? Ah yes looking for somebody.
They both have lively Message boards submitted messages I used Gumtree as they let you specify the area http://manchester.gumtree.com/manchester/friends-partners_2133_1.html

Here is the Craigslist page same area. http://manchester.craigslist.co.uk/

I know they are read religiously by students looking for bargains

I saw(on a link) this separate site www.chancedit.com/index.php(Only been open a few weeks)and Its a free submission site(still in Beta) But all the links are working good
And I think it will be a good alternative to the other more localised lists

Both this site and the Gumtree site use a secure Internal mail system to generate a Notification if a Message is submitted (No viewable enail addresses )

As regards the Craigslist version I'd expect to see the same thing in operation (as to messages)

Further info. Craigslist do a "Direct reply back to the Advertisers mailbox." method.
And, on a side note Have had No Spam coming from these sites .There are tick boxes to allow 3rd party offers (if you want it?) In Clear view!
