If you want a cheap 8mb package ,check whether your exchange is LLU enabled. You can do so at http://www.samknows.com. If it is you can get BB for less than £17 with both Tiscali and Talk Talk with no line rental to pay. Many complain but many are satisfied as with all ISPs.I have been with Tiscali and a friend also for several years without complaint thogh neither of us are heavy users. If your exchange is not LLU enabled you have to pay line rental.

Dell advised me to go with Tiscali over two years ago. They eventually said the local exchange needed upgrading to support broadband after I waited 6 weeks to be connected. I smelled something fishy, so called Wanadoo (now Orange) who gave me 2Mb straight away. That was upgraded to 8Mb a year later and I regularly measure 6.8 - 7Mb when using speedtest.net. All this was £17.99 a month. I rang them some months ago, threatened to switch ISPs, and they offered me a retention contract - £9.99 a month. Rarely have any problems; only had to ring Orange help 3 times in two and half years.

Hi, i have just seen your message on "best broadband" just like you I have been with wanadoo and then orange.Started at 2Mb then I went up to 3.5-3.7Mb, I also paid £17.99 a month,so three weeks ago I rang them up and told them I was not satisfied and threatened to switch ISP,s they offered me a deal very similar to yours £9.99 a month but I would have to accept a new 12 month contract, but when I asked them if my connection would stay exactly the same they would not give me a clear yes or no,they told me I would receive a "wireless router" to which I said that I was ok with what I have and it was just the £17.99 a month I was not happy about,I told them I would think it over..Did your broadband stay the same after your new contract? and do you think I should accept their offer? Many thanks for your time. Kind Regards, Geoff..

Sorry, just seen your post Geoff. When I asked Orange, they said nothing would change regarding my set up or speed, just that I'd need to sign a new 12 months contract. Nothing was mentioned about wireless routers. I have noticed no problems, but I made sure Orange emailed an acknowledgement of my call, and I made sure the new monthly price was correct on my bill.
