Hi there
I was wondering how I could speed up virus scans? They take so long sometimes, especially when your computer has been running for a long time and a bit cluttered and disorganised. Surely the faster your computer can can, the less threat there is of getting a virus? What could I do?

Basically, the less files on the machine, the quicker the scan.
I suggest using a program such as ccleaner to clear out junk before scanning in future.

Ok thats a given, but I can't start deleting files. I run XP, AVG8, Office, accounting software, PDF and PDF Creator, Skype, mobile software, and all the normal sort of stuff. Then obviously My Documents has grown over the years and its not stuff I can delete. I have that stuff backed up but I often refer back to it so I keep it on the drive. I do Disk Cleanup often but there must be more I can do?

Other then deleting unnecessary files, there isn't much. A disk defrag may help, but the difference will probably be unnoticeable.
