Film and TV spoilers - do you search for them?
      #398567 - Wed Jun 25 2008 11:56 AM

Morning everyone...

There's an interesting story today about how many people search for TV spoilers online. Apparently, Hollyoaks fans are the most impatient, always online to get a sneak preview of what's coming up.....

Do any of you look for spoilers online? Maybe searching for future Lost twists, or clues to the next Doctor Who cliff-hanger? Or do you try everything possible to avoid having your fun ruined by stumbling upon a plot-revealing spoiler?

I've got to say that I've never been a fan of soaps, but I do remember getting quite frustrated a few years ago when many of the red-tops would give away the storylines before they happened.

I've never been able to understand why anyone would want to watch a programme when they know what is going to happen. Can anyone enlighten me?

My pet dislikes are continuity announcers just before a programme telling us what we're about to see, and trailers, which more or less show every scene. I tend to either turn the volume off or switch channel until the coast is clear!

And other one....showing trailers of what's on next week, at the end of the current programme.

Before Sky chomped up Lost we were regular viewers. Then they stretched ANOTHER series out and I recently searched out the end of what was to be the last series - a video link. Apparently they are talking about running it to 2010 at least. Glad I read the spoilers and not wasting time watching.

If I see a film description of a film I know I won't see I'll search out more info that usual, but it reminds me of the Likely Lads episode where they try to avoid the football match scores only to find out it was cancelled.

I think with the TV listing magazines it is hard to avoid what is going to happen in a soap. I don't watch any of them but I do know what is going to happen. Sometime tempted to read a spoiler for a film but then decide it would take the fun out of it.

I tend to look on IMDB to check out a film, to see whether or not I can be bothered to watch it or not.

More often than not, the critiques are accurate and the overview gives enough away to not ruin the film, but at least a fair opportunity to follow the plot.

Once the film is watched though, I'll take a more detailed look.

As for TV programs, well it's all hit and miss

Like Putasolutions I use IMDB to research films before I go to the cinema.

I use the BBC site to read previews of their upcoming programs. If I find something I like, I use the search function on my BT Vision box to set to record either a one off program or a series.

If I read a review of a program that was shown the day before, I go back and find it on the BBC iPlayer.

BT Vision and the iPlayer has really helped someone a little forgetful like me to catch my shows.
