Netgear WPN824 firewall help please
      #398365 - Mon Jun 23 2008 09:30 AM

Hi all
I have just bought and set up a wireless LAN using one of the above routers.

I think I have all the settings correct for high security, but am unsure.

The Lan security is WPA2-PSK.

I am concerned the built in firewall may not be configured correctly. My reasons for this are that I am also running Zonealarm.
Previous to going wireless I used a Netgear Firewall router, and Zonealarm NEVER ever showed any signs of blocked intrusions.
Since using this new wireless router, Zonealarm is showing 770 intrusions, 2 being high rated.
This number is also increasing.

I have tried shields up,and that shows all my ports are stealthed, so whats wrong?
I dont feel my machine is safe behind the router like it was with the wired one.

Help appreciated.

Your wireless security is fine with WPA2-PSK. Your experience with the previous Netgear router is exactly as I would have expected - ZoneAlarm didn't see anything. Can you go to the Zone Alarm log and see where these intrusions are coming from. Is it all one IP address or varied addresses? Could it be something as simple as the router itself simply trying to talk to your PC and you need to tell ZA to ignore it?

Almost certainly is. It will definitely be in the range 192.168.1.?? Sounds like all you need to do is to allow that traffic in ZA.
