I have purchased the above as a CD to renew my subscription.
Can someone please advise, do i have to remove the old version or will it just override.

If I remember rightly, any upgraded version automatically overwrites/un-installs the existing version.

This is Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team.
Although the installer for Norton Internet Security 2008 should prompt you to remove a previous version, to ensure a smooth installation, please follow the steps below to properly remove your previous installation of Norton Internet Security and to then install Norton Internet Security 2008.
1. Click on the following link to download the Norton Removal Tool:

2. After you run the tool, please restart your computer. Then log in to Windows again and run the removal tool again. Restart your computer after it is finished running the second time as well.
3. Make sure that your internet connection is working properly, and then install Norton Internet Security 2008. Towards the end of the installation process, the LiveUpdate feature will automatically run and download and install updates to both the program files and definition files.
