I was wondering, what's a really good free disk defragger for XP? I've tried Iobits defrag (version 4.03 works nicely but is a bit s-l-o-w, and 5.01 causes an error message to flag up on another users non-admin account who shares my PC), and am currently trying AusLogics defragger (which is quick, but had a spamvert to try and persuade you your PC is filled with junk files only they can fix... for a fee of course!).
All suggestions welcome... hopefully webuser will do a review of free defraggers in a future issue... (unless I missed that one!)

AusLogics defragger.........free , quick and does what it says on the tin. The fact that , beside the results , once you've defragged , there is an unobtrusive "link" to a free trial to one of the company's other products , is neither here nor there. Hey you're not forced to click on the link but if you do , you won't find find any mention of "fixes only they can do". Surely if you're happy to use free products , a little bit of advertising is no big deal , how else do you expect them to be able to continue offering "free" tools if they can't use these methods to get some revenue.

My issue with that AusLogic advert, is that it doesn't announce itself as one. The "Optimize PC" link, looks like a tools option for your defragger, for example. It isn't - it's a link to get you to buy their paid for software. To me, that's deceptive. So is saying "we found 600+ junk files on your PC, we recommend you dejunk your PC" with a link saying "clean and remove junk now", which makes it look as though the program itself is offering to do this. Again, that's deceptive.
If they simply had an banner advert saying "AusLogic junk file remover" or ads the way that Advanced Windows Care 2 does them, I wouldn't class it as a spamvert. Annoying, maybe, but nothing more than that. But it pretends to be something it isn't. To me, that's a spamvert.
But hey, no-one's forcing me to buy the product, and with tactics like that - and if I'd intended to buy their product - they just neatly talked themselves out of a sale!
As for the person who came up with the other suggestion - thank you, and I'll look into that!

Actually, since posting this WEbUser themselves have come up with an article listing several very promising sounding defraggers... maybe someone read this and thought it might be an idea listing a few. I'm certainly not complaining, as between the helpful posts here, and the article in the magazine, I have all the defragging information I could ever wish for!
Thanks again everyone! Tigerwolf
