Hi everyone, I'm currently with virgin media cable broadband and want to set up a wireless network so I don't have a cable running the length of my house. I've never done it before so want to make sure I buy the right router. I need a router which is located downstairs by the cable connection and allows my pc upstairs to connect the wireless network. Sorry I know this sounds a bit dumb, but any help/advice would be appreciated! thanks

In that case, one of these would be what you want. If you want to look at some other makes, click on this link. In general terms Wireless N is the latest and best technology.
To set it up you need to connect your Virgin Media modem to the router by ethernet cable. Similarly, before you take you PC upstairs, connect it to the router, again by ethernet. Switch everything off then power up the VM modem. Wait for the lights to settle down then fire up the router. Again wait a minute then power up the PC and you should be connected to the net.
Follow the instructions for the router and set up your wireless security and then remove the cable. If everything still works you can take your PC upstairs and start surfing.
