disc clean up on Windows Vista Premium
      #397287 - Fri Jun 13 2008 09:52 PM

Anybody advise???
Disc clean up on Windows Vista Premium. gives you the option of cleaning my files only or files from all users on this computer. I normally on XP would remove my temp internet files and sometimes cookies. What does "my files" mean??
Regards
Maureen

hi Maureen,

my files, means just that, the files of the current user (even if there's only one user account). I generally just select my files as and then run clean up, after a minute or so, it will come up with a similar dialogue box to xp. It's part of vista's newer security features I think, it's a little annoying at first but you soon get used to it.

hope it helps

ray

Hi Ray

It is me again, did as you said and cleared unwanted rubbish. Googled Hibernation File Cleaner as I hadn't heard of it before. Was amazed to read about peoples probs with disc clean up. Some had deleted (I had thought about it) error reports and system dump files, and lost everything on there computer.I have had a lot of probs since using Vista and still am so a lot of reports have been sent to Microsoft. I thought about deleting them as they would no longer be needed. Wrong eh!!!!
My problem at the moment don't know if you can help is installation of a new scanner Canon lide 90 Vista compatible. My old one was not. However installed this new one did quite a lot of work on it when I turned on comp. next day Blue Screen and then Black one all I managed to grasp before blue screen went off was to do with new hardware. So I have uninstalled it and so far so good but I don't know what to do now.
I have also reinstalled a new copy of Family Tree Maker 2006 which I was told was Vista compatible. The last time I installed it I had the same problem as above so am hoping this time it will be ok. However I received a message after installation that Windows can't install the Amyuni Document Converter 2.10 kernel-mode print driver. To obtain a driver that is compatible with the version of Windows you are running contact the manufacturer.
If you haven't already commited suicide after reading this have you any clues to the answers?????
Regards
Maureen

I can tell you that FTM 2006 is not directly Vista compatible. However if you go to this page you can download a Vista patch.

Click on this link for a Vista driver for your scanner. Uninstall anything you've done so far, reboot your PC and then install this new driver.

Hi Greysts
We meet again!
I don't have to uninstall FTM 2006 do I before I download the patch do I?

The Scanner is already uninstalled so I assume I can go ahead with the downloads.
For the scanner there appears to me to be 2 downloads to choose from I think the one I need is MP Navigator for Windows(1-06) for the 32 bit. Am I right?
The other one for canon scangear there is only one suitable i think.
I can't believe I have had to buy a new scanner because mine was not Vista compatible and the one i have bought has Vista Compatible on the box. And yet I am still having this bother. Is anything straight forward with Vista.

I have other questions needing answers but i will try and sort these two out first. Please don't go to far away I might need you again!!!
It is a good job you don't live next door or I might ask you to move in temporarily!!!

Many thanks
Regards
Maureen.

No you don't.

No, you first need to install No.2, the Scan Gear driver to allow your PC to talk to the scanner. Then, if you wish, you can install No.6

Hi Greysts
You are going to be sick of me. I installed the scanner set up CD rom. and then installed the driver. I then checked back to your advice and think maybe I should have installed the driver first am I right? When I finished installing the driver a box came up asking me to reinstall as something was incompatible with Vista!! I plugged the scanner in after all this.
I have just tried to get me scanner working and the only way I can is to go into Adobe Photoshop Elements and import.
I am sure I don't need all the things that have been downloaded from the cd they are as follows. (I did the easy install on the CD would have preferred to do the custom install which gave you the option of what to download only I wasn't sure what I could omit.)

Folder:-Canon Canonscan Lide 90 Manual with canonscan Lide on screen manual in and the option to uninstall.

Folder:-Canon Utilities with MP Navigator Ex 1.0 in and a solution menu

Folder:-Canonscan Lide 90 with Read Me and the option to uninstall in.

Folder:-Presto Page Manager 7.15 with Import old data, Readme, and the option to uninstall

Folder:-Scansoft Ominpage SE 4 with ominpage SE4, Scanner set up wizard, and a guide

I am certain I don't need half of this rubbish but don't know how to choose what I have to have and what I don't!

Are you at your wits end yet, because I am. I am frightened to turn off the computer incase the same thing happens as last time.

The FTM patch was a doddle and the computer appeared to restart without a problem.

Regards
Maureen

Hi Greysts

Done that. Thanks.

My other Canonscan had an icon on desktop and you just clicked that unless I imported from Adobe Elements.

Something else to ask!!!
My previous problems began when I downloaded an optional update SP1. Took advice from someone like yourself who said Do it. Had read forums on Microsoft and a lot of people were having probs. freezing not connecting to Internet and lots of different probs. But I had taken advice and DID IT. Nothing but trouble followed and as you probably already know I had to consequently contact Medion who took me back to factory settings and told me not to do updates of any sort!!
Took advice from Webuser and am doing updates but I have an optional "important" update waiting for me to install. SP1. I really don't know what to do. HELP.
Regards
Maureen

As far as I am concerned you should install ALL updates, optional or critical unless they relate to sound or graphics drivers.
