Hi Had probs with this in the past. New comp. Feb.2008. Twice phoned Medion they took me back to factory settings and told me not to use windows updates (a previous query with you) You advised me to use them as I thought I would need too The only thing other than that is my trying to install a CanonScan scanner. Problem is Device Driver is showing the following:-Network Adapters [!6T04 adapter.) What exactly does this mean. Is it to do with updating or installing? Or is it something else.
In updates there are 2 optional, NVIDIA Driver update for NVIDIA nForce networking controller. Ralink-networking-802.11 n/g/b wireless LAN USB adapter. Do these need to updated? I am using Windows Vista 32 bit Premium. Help!!! Regards Maureen

Yes, install the optional updates. Are those characters in that message exactly as shown? Are you saying that Device Manager is showing that as a problem?

Hi Greysts
!6T04 Adapter. That is the one in device driver under Network adapters that has the yellow exclamation mark highlighted. I have just done a system restore to the 9th June the day before I installed my scanner and it is still there so I presume it had nothing to do with that. As yet not having any of the probs I had a couple of weeks ago when it happened but am on edge all the time not knowing what it means are you able to advise. Thanks in anticipation Regards Mau.

Have you installed those updated drivers yet? If not, do so then in Device Manager delete the entry with the yellow exclamation mark. Reboot your PC and let's see if the Windows New Hardware found wizard runs and re-installs it properly.

Hi Greysts Replied to you before but it would appear to have vanished.Goodness knows what i have done not yet used to using site. Have downloaded all optional updates. Left clicked problem in device driver and tried to update driver and was told best driver software for your device is already installed. Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date. Microsoft 6 to 4 adapter.
I then right clicked and got a message this device is not working properly because windows cannot load the drivers required for this device (code 31)
If I do as you say I would only be able to disable as I don't appear to have the option to delete. If I do this and start my machine again and it doesn't offer me the chance to reinstall what then. Sorry if I sound as though I am panicking but I am. Can you tell me what this adapter is for??? Regards Maureen

Let's first of identify exactly what this device is. In Device Manager you have a list of device headings with a plus sign next to them. What is the heading for this particular device? Next, what is the full name of the device with a yellow exclamation mark? I've never heard of a 6 to 4 Adaptor.
All devices should be capable of an uninstall by right clicking and choose Uninstall. Windows will always try and re-install any device that it finds connected to the mother board.

Hi Greysts It is in device driver against the Network adapters, there are 4 things listed in this category one of them being Microsoft 6to4 adapter. this is the only one with a yellow exclamation mark on it. Regards Maureen

Having done some research it appears that this is a fairly common problem with Vista computers. Without getting too technical the current system of allocating IP addresses uses version 4. Version 6 is being introduced over an extended period but Vista has already got the changes so Microsoft have produced an IPv6 to IPv4 adaptor to cope with it. It's not an actual piece of hardware, simply some technical wizardry. You can't uninstall it but it can safely be ignored. If you want to lose the error message, right click on the device and choose Disable.

Hi Greysts You are a star I will forever be in your debt. People think I am stupid but I can't sleep or anything if I have a problem with my comp. It is like loosing an arm. I have done all sorts of classes in computing also how to build your own computer. But it doesn't matter what goes wrong it is always something I can't fix on my own. Maybe one day until then i will be forever grateful to you and your friends. Regards# Maureen

These computer things can drive you nuts, can't they. One thing I would suggest is to do what I do when I can't find an answer - Google it. I typed in 6to4 network adaptor and the whole first page is full of people all asking the same question and getting the same answer as I gave you. Admittedly some of the answers are difficult to grasp but scan through them and you'll get an overview.
Come back if you have any more problems.

Hi Greysts Tried Windows help, microsoft help and got pretty much nowhere. Thanks for your tip. It is nice to know people like you exist. Slept well last night!! I seem to remeber something the last time the comp went all to pot, at one point it wouldn't let me enter (can't remember what it was now having another senior moment, one of many) something because my address was already using the site. It may have been windows mail. It only happened once. I had also just downloaded SP1 and when I contacted Medion they took me back to factory settings and told me not to download automatic updates!! I didn't for a while until I asked the Webusers advice. Funny enough I think this is when the warning reappeared when I started to do auto updates. Thanks again Regards Maureen
