PC freezing
      #396657 - Sat Jun 07 2008 02:09 PM

Hi All

Was getting help from Bricat in the HJT forum and he suggested that i try here with this problem. Have problems with my sons pc freezing all the time and Bricat helped me with some suggestions with spyware its. Tried all that he suggested but pc just started freezing every 5mins and i would have to big button it and restart.

Stripped down fans etc and gave everything a good clean out incase the problem was temp although checked with Everest home edition and everything looked ok.

Finally lost patience with it all and done a full system restore so that i had nothing on the machine apart from factory settings. Left machine running for hours like this for hours without internet connection or anything and everything worked fine. However as soon as i started installing my Belkin Network Adapter to give me a connection to my belkin router and the internet the machine started freezing again.

My laptop is connected wirelessly thru the same router although not thru a adapter as it is wireless enabled and my other desktop is hardwired to it.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

See this page on how to do this

I would try on all, to be honest. It's not one of micro$oft's better attempts at making things simple.

Thanx for that mate,

Tried that however PC is still freezing after being on and connected to the internet for 10mins. Nothing at all moves, mouse, keyboard, keys etc.

I take out the belkin adapter and restart pc and it will run fine for as long as its on but as soon as i reconnect the belkin network adapter and connect to the internet again it all locks up after a few minutes.

Sorry for my lack of knowledge here but u could write what i know about wireless networks on the back of a stamp, lol.

Hope to hear from u soon.

Cheers

Have you tried re-installing the belkin adaptor driver or going to the belkin site and look for an updated driver?

Uninstalled the belking adapter and then reinstalled it using the cd that was supplied with it.

Have been told by someone else that they had the same problem and eventually went out at bought at D-Link network adapter and this stopped the freezing.

Just wondering if u think this will work as it cost about £20 and as i've already got two belkin adapters then i wouldn't want to waste any more money, and would the D-Link adapter work with the Belkin router? Also my Belkin network adapters at G and the Belking Router is G+, do u think this would make any difference?
Thanx again for the quick reply.
