Good morning, hi there,

I have the above version of Nero and can perfectly well burn CDs with it. However, I want to reinstall my WindowsOP and save my data on (I was hoping)DVDs with 4,5 GB space on them. I bought a bunch to this purpose.

To no purpose it now seems because Nero does not recognise that there is a DVD-RW in the drive. I have downloaded other cd writers - they couldn't identify the discs either.

Is this a Windows problem? Is there a DVD disc identification module that's missing? Has anyone experienced this or a similar problem and found a solution?

I was planning on finishing the data-saving this weekend. I shall have to replan, it seems.

A frequent problem with XP, so at the risk of looking like a complete idiot this is the method for repairing the problem

Download, unzip and run this program on Doug Knox's page

The link didn't work so I went along to Doug's page and downloaded

<Restore CD/DVD Drives to Explorer>

Which has actually worked, insofaras Nero identifies the disc - but only in the dvd drive. So I'm still miles away from saving my data.

I have a feeling I shall have to dump the dvds and grab some memory sticks next week. That'll put me out of pocket for some time.

try giving the drive a clean along with the disks
