Using Picasa, can you make changes to a pic and then save, whilst retaining the original?

Yes, all you have to do is click File | Save As

Save it as the current file name and -1 , So if your file name is P101342, save the changed image as P101342-1. The original and the new picture will then appear in the original folder

The other option is just make the changes and Picasa will automatically save the original in a new sub-folder to the one in which you are working. It will retain the new edited one in the main folder and will allow you to revert by removing all the editing you might have done. Only when you press Save Changes at the top of the Picasa album will it keep the current editing. Even then you can go into Explorer, delete the edited version and copy back the original from the sub-folder.

Easiest way - I use it all the time. Before working on a file, click on 'file' in the top left corner. In the drop down menu which appears, go down to 'save a copy' and click it.

The copy will appear in the same folder as your original. You are then free to work on the copy, confident in the knowledge that the original file is safe.
