Justbarking

It depends what you mean by backup disk?

If you mean create a bootable CD or DVD image of your operating system, it needs specialist software.

If you mean clone your operating system to another bootable hard disk, yes, as follows:
XXClone is small, free and can clone a hard disk to either an internal disk or a USB disk. Only the professional version will do cumulative backups but this is perfect if an exact clone of the drive is needed. Get it here http://www.xxclone.com/index.htm Click ‘Download’ in the left pane and select the freeware package version. It is intended for single installations that run Win95 through to WinXP.

Hiya BurrWalnut

I want to clone/copy the contents from an hard drive of one computer to another computer with a new larger hard drive. Thanks for the link. JB

A cloned system drive (or partition) will probably not boot on a different computer. You will be able to access any data though.

As BurrWalnut said, it possibly would not boot, unless the specs of the second computer were identical to the first, simply because the drivers of the two machines would not match.

However, if you are replacing a hard drive, it is possible to partition a hard drive in such a way that the clone could be placed on the new drive. For that purpose, I would use Acronis True Image
