Hi, I have searched previous post to find a solution with no luck. I have changed my BT Home Hub from WEP to WPA-PSK as recommended, I have put in a fifteen alpha numeric wireless key but I am unable to connect my wife's Toshiba Satellight Pro. I have gone into network set up on her computer put in the SSID, selected WPA-PSK, selected TKIP and put in the wireless key but although it sees the connection it won't connect, when I try to repair it it says it can't find IP address. I have tried connecting via USB drive transfer, and although the Toshiba says wireless connection transferred, it still doesn't work. I'm running Vista HE and am connected by Ethernet connection and the Toshiba is running XP HE and has automatic updates so I'm sure it should be able to connect When I revert to to WEP everything is fine again.
Would WEP be ok if I'm running a good firewall?
Any help appreciated.

Try these:
Changing the channel number in the router settings sometimes helps. Change it by a factor of 6, e.g. if it’s 12 make it 6, if it‘s 1 make it 7.
Try typing the WPA key in hexadecimal rather than as ASCII characters.

Thanks BurrWalnut I tried your suggestions to no avail! When I've rechecked my settings the 16 digit hexadecimal key shows eight insertions not 16 is this purely safety? This is the same on WPE & WPA. When I've tried to run repair it says cannot locate IP Address, but again it's fine on WPE.

I don’t know what you mean by ‘insertions’, unless you mean entering two hexadecimal digits for each character, e.g. SYRUP is 5359525550 and syrup is 7379727570 (note the case difference when entering keys).

BurrWalnut Probably not explained myself properly say for example I've put in wireless a key of 1947A1948b1971Cd when I check properties it shows only eight dots. Here is how I'm putting it in on the wireless computer (Toshiba) In Netwok Name(SSID)I'm putting in the SSID from the back of my home hub In Network Authorisation I'm ptting WPA-PSK In Data Encryption I'm putting TKIP In Network Key I'm putting 16 digits as example above, ditto Confirm Network Key but after doing this when I check this setting in the Network Properties-Properties Tab on the Toshiba the Network Key shows 8 dots as any password would, but not 16 as put in. When I go to repair it says renewing your IP address, and then says it cannot renew it, for assistance contact the person who manages your network (me) I hope this explains it?
Thanks for your help.

The number of dots or asterisks in a password field NEVER matches the number of characters in the password except by coincidence. If someone trying to break your password knows how many characters it contains it makes their life a whole lot easier because they can restrict the amount of searching they have to do.
The SSID for your network can be anything you choose it to be, not just something written on the router.

I’m not completely familiar with your router but I would guess that you’re clicking a hex box but typing character values.
Type these 32 digits 31393437413139343862313937314364 representing these 16 characters 1947A1948b1971Cd.

Whoops, I suspect you spotted my silly mistake!
In my previous post, I should have said that the key in hex digits is entered to the Toshiba, not the router.

BurrWalnut I have tried all combinations of Hexadecimal & Alphanumeric without any luck, I've tried it with both Firewalls on and off. It sees the wireless connection but just says it cannot connect to IP address.
I have enclosed an image of the window on the Toshiba that I have been installing on.

I've decided to call it a day as I have spent so much time on this already. I will continue to use WPE as I have a good firewall.
Thanks very much for trying to help me it was much appreciated.

I can understand your frustration as this is ordinarily a straightforward process. It will probably be something simple that I (we) have overlooked.
The only other thing I can think of, is to look for an adapter driver update for the Toshiba and perhaps a firmware update for the router. Have a look at the websites of the respective manufacturers.

BurrWalnut I won't give up I've have still been trying tonight, it's so frustrating, it connects via WPE no problem, just had enough for a few days. I'll probably contact Toshiba to see if they can help. I will also try and connect my computer via wireless to see what happens! I'll let you know the outcome. Thanks again for your help.

Chris, no luck yet, but I wont give up. Just giving it a rest for awhile and using WPE, or else I won't have any hair left!

Success at last. Phoned Tshiba and they said the problem I had was that I was not deleting the WEP set up. I was just adding a WPA connection and also trying by modifying the existing WEP connection. Where I was going wrong was I should have deleted all network connection, set up my HomeHub for TPA and then let the Toshiba find it automaticely. Took 2 minutes. Thanks BurrWalnut for your help and patience, sorry if I led you down the wrong Path.
