I have a Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-900 USB TV tuner that I is connected to my desktop PC running Vista. The PC has Windows Media Centre through which I would like to watch TV recieved through the TV tuner.
It has never seemed to work properly in this combination and Windows Media Centre would frequently tell me that it could not detect the tv tuner. This now appears to be occurring all the time.
I seem to be able to get it to work if I completely remove and uninstall the TV tuner stick and then reninstall it and go through the whole set up and channel scanning in Media Centre. This will work for a while but it seems that if I switch of the PC, next time I use it I go into Media Centre and I get a message saying that it cannot detect a TV tuner.
Any ideas? is this purely down to it running on Vista? Is there a specific way I have to set this up so that it will work consistently?

Have you tried running it in Vista and ignoring the Media Centre?

Install the hardware and software and run the software via a Desktop icon (or Start > All Programs).
You don't have to go to Media Center to run it. Similarly, you can view videos and listen to music without using it.
