Universal? ISP Browser Connection Problem Workaround (for those with BB Modems)
      #394337 - Fri May 16 2008 04:10 AM

This may be worth a workshop article W/U Staff?

If you sign on with an Internet Portal Such as AOL and you are having Connection issues.With your Broadband Modem There is a legal way of circumnavigating the Signup Page and getting online
This method is also Ok to use for those people who are not tied to an ISP and Just use the Broadband Modem software .

Only takes a minute to set up

Open the Control Panel(On the Start Menu)

Click on Network Connections

Look in the Left frame Item at the Top>Create a new connection click that .Opens the New Connection Wizard Click Next...

Next page (Net Connection Type) The Item "Connect to the Internet" is already preselected unless you are doing something different? Click Next...

Next Page(Getting Ready) There are 3 selections. Select the Middle setting " Set up my Connection Manually" Click Next..

This Next page (Internet Connection )Has 3 Ways to go Ignore the Top item Unless you are still on Dial-Up

The middle Item is for a secure BB Browser such as AOL But You can Get on line with just your User Name There is a Problem though Your username has to entered as Username @Aol.com.dialBB
and continue as Below (Have to ask your ISP Tech support for the Correct wording)

BUT There Is Good News if you cannot be bothered by entering all that(and phoning the ISP)

Click the last Item Connect using a Broadband Connection that is always on

Click Next..

If the connection has already been set up then the Next Page is the Finish (There may be a "confirming setup "Message displayed?)

Next moment of truth does it connect?
I assume you are looking at the Desktop
You'd Normally Hit the ISP Icon or Link to get to the Sign in Page?

Click on the Internet Explorer icon Instead

You'd expect to seen a frozen saved page here But its your Homepage! In My case its Google. Type something in the search box...It works!
Now You can surf from this Point and not bother with your ISP software.It can be deleted? Answer Wrong!
2 good reasons with AOLs browser..1) The online AOL Mailpage @ www.mail.Aol.com does not save composed email! 2) The AOL Favourites System is very easy to use. yet its File type are Not Interchangeable with IE & Firefox!

Broadband Router Users use the same method to get online .
Only little difference is the Different connection speeds, though I went to a Live traffic streaming webcam site(in the Netherlands) and the Pics ran seamlessly (had sound too) I then opened a Dutch Language Radio station with another Streaming webcam DONNA FM and Despite the traffic sound being drowned out (by the radio) the Pictures from Both sites ran smoothly (Both using Windows Media Player 10)
I wonder if Download performance Numbers are better without the ISP Portal software governing matters? Anybody see any difference?
An experiment worth trying

Last thing. The only "Visible" sign of this route is to be seen in the Internet Options "Connections Tab" section . I have now 3 residing here:
AOL= Netgear Router
DialBB = AOL BB Modem
And the New one which has been named " AOL Diagnostics Test"
And, I'm pleased to report NO Issues

AOL users only.I had another look and the Syntax they have used is AOL "Master" Screename @DialBB Need the DialBB Connectivity upgrade to use. Otherwise stick to the method in the first post .If one and/or the other method works, then object achieved
