Hi all,
Can anyone give me an idiots guide how to network two home PCs to allow sharing of certain folders and a printer that is connected to one of them?
The main one is running Vista Home Premium (with the printer connected) and the 2nd is running XP. They're both Wireless.
I've done it in the past but just cant seem to get it right this time. They're both on the WORKGROUP and the XP PC has the Link Layer Topology something or other installed.
Cheers Guys A

You say you have both computers in the same workgroup and LLTD installed on the XP machine, so now share the files:
XP To share a folder, right-click it and select Sharing & Security > Sharing Tab > Share this… and optionally, Allow Network users to….. You only need to share the highest level folder, e.g. not every sub-folder. A little hand should appear under those that are shared. Alternatively, drag the folders you want to share to the Shared Documents folder.
VISTA To share a folder, right-click it > Share, type 'Everyone' (not the quotes), click Add and set the drop down Permission Level alongside Everyone to either Reader or Co-owner then click Share at the bottom. Two little people should appear under those that are shared. Alternatively, drag the folders you want to share to the Public folder.
Make sure in Control Panel > Classic View > Network and Sharing Center you have Network Discovery, File Sharing and Public Folder Sharing set to ‘On’ and, if you‘re not using passwords set Password Protected Sharing to ‘Off’, unless you want to set up identical usernames and passwords on all computers in your network. If you have it on, you will be asked for a username and password when you try to access a Vista computer from an XP computer.
BOTH To see or copy files, click Start > My Network Places (Network in Vista) and the computers/folders/files should appear. Using Windows Explorer drag them from one PC to the other.
Windows firewall is normally set to allow file and printer sharing but if you have a third-party firewall make sure file and printer sharing is enabled so that each machine can talk to the other(s).
PRINTER On the Vista machine, go to Control Panel > Classic View > Printers & Faxes, right-click the printer, click Sharing, check ‘Share this printer’. On the XP machine go to Control Panel > Printers & Faxes > Add printer and follow the wizard. Remember, the Vista machine and printer must be turned on for the XP machine to be able to print.
