hi i was reading in issue 185 about free online storage in the past i always back-up onto disc just normally pictures but i like the review on humyo.com if i was to back up all my pics onto humyo.com and the worst come to the worst and i was to format my PC would my stuff be still safe on humyo

As with any free on-line storage you have to assume that the company running the software will still be around when you need them. However, there are no guarantees. The company might go broke, BT Wholesale might pull the plug, their servers could be hacked.
If you want absolute safety for your data you should pay for a company that has servers in a least two physical locations and offer you a guarantee that your data will always be safe.
Don't ever rely on data backup in just one location if it's vital that it doesn't get lost. Get a standalone hard disk along with on-line storage and keep your data in both places.

I was reading that issue recently and was very surprised by the review of humyo.
I signed up for the premier account a couple of weeks ago and sadly have found it to be anything but good.
My advise, would be to get the free account and test it, then test it some more....make sure it does what you need. I've not managed to upload any data in large quantities without the client falling over. Their own forums have a large number of reported issues and customer service seems very poor.
Sadly i jumped before i found this out so i'm in the process of trying to get a refund.
Also what ever service you go with do not use it as you only backup...my intention is to have a service that retain an offsite backup for me...this is only used if my external drives, NAS/RAID all fail.

You get 2Gb free, it's not the fastest, but relatively safe
