BT Broadband so slow - Please help!
      #394199 - Tue May 13 2008 08:32 PM

Hi, I have just read all the previous posts on this topic but unfortunately I have not resolved my problem.

Took BT Broadband out in Feb as wanted BT vision. Until then I was using a usb speedtouch modem with Demon and achieving upto 4mb down which was great.

Switched to BT and had no end of problems with BT. For one it annoys me so much that they are all separate companies and do not not talk to each other. Anyway, I'm straying off the point....

My speeds down are 0.7mb down - terrible. Paying for broadband and vision which are almost unusuable at times. There's not enough bandwidth to use my on demand services. BT Openreach have been out twice with their laptops and said I am getting at least 3.7mb into the house but that's where their job ends. I've had 3 BT hubs and still getting nowhere.

I've have not added any other hardware or changed my set up in anyway. I never had this problem before BT and I'm sure my pc is not at fault. It is connected via ethernet and not wireless.

I have tried different combos e.g. disconnecting vision, just using the hub only but to no avail.

It's driving me nuts and I'm only 3 months into an 18 mth contract. Does it sound like my problem or should I just scream and shout and get out of my contract?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys, Del.

Win XP Pro, SP2, AMD64 3500 2gb ram AVG free, BT home hub and vision.

A couple of things to ask first. Is there any chance that you are the victim of BT's 'fair usage' policy? In other words have you been downloading excessive amounts of film, music etc.?

If not, can you run this test a few times at different times of the day and night and tell me what you get on average.

Do you have access to another router (beg, borrowed or stolen!) so that you can test your system without the BT bit in the middle?

Apologies for delay in replying greysts. BT finally came out again and then found a wire off at the BT box at the end of the road. This has sorted the phone diconnection probs and speeds up the broadband. Not great but a lot better than it was.

Thanks again,

Del
