Tidy up Firefox downloads on your desktop.
      #394162 - Tue May 13 2008 09:29 AM

Here's a really simple way I keep my desktop tidy.

When you download and save a file using Firefox, it saves the file onto the desktop.
If you don't delete these, your desktop can soon get cluttered.

To keep mine tidier, I created a Firefox Downloads folder.

Just right click on the desktop. Click New > Folder.
Name it Firefox Downloads.

Then open Firefox.
Choose, Tools, Options, Main
Look for "Save Files to" and click Browse
Then choose the folder you just created.

Now any downloads you make are stored in this folder and can be easily located, deleted or stored neatly.

.. and here's how I keep mine tidy.

Maxthon has it's own inbuilt downloader (not an add on), which will store your downloads automatically to C:\MxDownload or a destination of your own choice. It allows you to open the file, browse the folder, it will display the properties. You can view past files, delete selected files and has it's own Recycle Bin which allows you to restore a file if you make a mistake.

Firefox does more or less the same, to download something you do not require and add on and you select the destination of your downloads yourself, be it the Firefox download folder or the desktop.

If it does the same as you suggest then why change the default download location to the Desktop and then have to tidy it up later ?
When I say stored in Maxthon Downloader I mean just that. Access to the downloader and all the relevant files is just a click away with an icon on the Status Bar which reveals them in a window as per my first post.

In Firefox why not just click on tools, options, main, in the downloads box (2nd Down) just check the "always ask me where to save files" then the choice is yours.

That's a good idea if you want to save files to different locations each time, but I like having mine in one location, as it's easier to do a clean out quickly.
