Just a heads up for anyone new to AVG 8. As with SpywareBlaster , which was discussed elsewhere on the forum , AVG 8 also conflicts with Spybot search and Destroy. After running a scan with AVG to-night it produced a list of warnings regarding ActiveX Compatibility" registry key's. I recognised these same "warnings" from a previous scan when SpywareBlaster was at the root of the problem. As i had unistalled SpywareBlaster it was obvious the problem now lay elsewhere. I left the "warnings" unhealed and started Spybot and all was well. However after "healing" the warnings and emptying the AVG vault , i then found that all Spybot's immuninzation of I.E. , Firefox and the Hosts file , were now in unprotected mode.
The way i see it then is you have three options if you wish to continue using AVG 8 in this situation :
(1) Uninstall Spybot. Doing this means these "warnings" will not be detected on future scans.
(2) Ignore the "warnings" i.e. don't heal or remove them. This means the "warnings" will reappear on future scans. ( must stress ignoring the warnings does not put you at risk as these keys are protected by Spybot ).
(3) Heal and remove these "warnings". This means to continue using Spybot to it's maximum you will have to go back into Spybot's settings and re-immunize to gain full protection of I.E. Firefox and the Hosts file.
Hope this is of some help.

As yet I have not run a scan with Spybot since installing AVG 8 so it certainly does help to know of the conflict. Thanks for the alert.
Problem is, having dumped Blaster, Spybot was my remaining alternative to go with AVG8. What free Anti Spyware can actually work without having to keep re- immunizing?
AVG even advises removing Webroot's Spyware Sweeper which is a commercial product. The vendors can't be too amused reading that advice.

I'm not sure that any of the products on the Free Anti-Spyware Software and Free Spyware Prevention Software suggestions here are going to yield any different results? I may be wrong, but it seems that AVG would like you to use AVG 8.0 to the exclusion of all else in this arena.
I've dumped AVG in favour of Avira Antivir and kept Spywareblaster and Spybot S&D.

George , guess you're like me with regard to using a "back up" anti-spyware app. It's early days for AVG and this particular problem and I'm going to keep Spybot , for the short term anyway , and follow option 2 and ignore the "warnings". Maybe , just maybe , AVG will address this problem as they could lose a lot of users if the number of complaints are anything to go by.
If you prefer the option to remove Spybot i would suggest you give... Malwarebytes Anti-Malware...a try. ( think this'll please ourstanley ).
Alternatively , I'm testing out... hazard shield...at the moment so if you enjoy trying out and testing you could give it a bash.

Thanks very much for your advice, I don't mind testing alternatives.
Must admit I'm becoming more confused than ever with AVG8's scan results. This morning left it to scan the entire computer. Result: No Threat/ No Spyware. Checking further there's a host of Adware plus Trojan's listed as found.
Made a list and Googled, TitanShield Antispyware, some program which nags you to buy after discovering spyware. totally unaware of this one, never used it or been nagged.
Trojans - Zlob/Bindfil.g/ZmarkA/Foon/Stoped. All said to be nasties.
So why does AVG say, no threats, no spyware, nothing removed?
Confused? Puggled is more like it!

Are you sure these are not just listed listed as "warnings" , as i've described in the earlier post ??

Yes they are in 'Warnings', listed as 'potentially dangerous objects'.
Later ran Spybot - result - "Congrats no immediate threat".

Yes, now I'm a lot less puggled. followed your link but you have explained well enough for me to understand.
I'll follow your lead with option 2 for the time being. Spybot stays.
Thanks.
